How To Use Consumption Lines
Consumption lines in Parrot are used for products/services that are invoiced once. Examples include consumption such as licenses, electricity, or time.
Step 1: Activate Consumption Lines
To register consumption, you need to activate consumption lines on the Contract Setup page:
- Choose the search icon (ALT+Q), enter Contract Setup, and then choose the related link.
- Activate Allow Sublines and Allow Consumption Lines on the Sublines FastTab.
Note
Consider changing the default setting for which consumption lines to include when creating documents or planning lines. If you always want to include only lines up to the next posting date, then select Until Next Posting Date in the Default Include Consumption Lines field on the Defaults FastTab.
Step 2: Register Consumption Lines
- Choose the search icon (ALT+Q), enter Contracts, and then choose the related link.
- Select New to create a new contract and proceed to fill the fields as usual.
- Select All or Until Next Posting Date in the Include Consumption Lines field. See above Note or hover over the field for more information.
- Select Consumption in the Subline Type field on the Lines FastTab.
- Select what to retrieve from the consumption lines in the
Consumption Sum Type field.
- Quantity = Retrieve only the quantity. The amount is specified on the contract line, using the price list or unique pricing.
- Amount = Retrieve only the amount. The quantity is specified on the contract line.
- Quantity (Average Price) = Retrieve the quantity and the average price.
- Expand the Consumption Lines FastTab and fill the fields as necessary. Hover over a field for more information.
Note
It is the Date field that is used to determine whether the line should be included when documents or planning lines are created if Next Posting Date has been selected in the Include Consumption Lines field. If the Date Time field is filled in, the Date field is automatically updated.
Step 3: Create Documents/Planning Lines
Select the Create Documents/Planning Lines action on the contract, or preferably use the Create Documents/Planning Lines from Contracts batch-job (report).
Step 4: Post Documents/Planning Lines
- Choose the search icon (ALT+Q), enter Sales Invoices or Sales Orders and then choose the related link.
- Open the document to view the created document lines.
- Select a line and then choose the Consumption Lines action to view the related lines.
- If necessary, it is possible to delete the document and recreate it.
- Post the document(s).
Note
Select the Project Create Sales Invoice batch-job (report) to create invoices for project planning lines.
View Posted Documents
- Choose the search icon (ALT+Q), enter Posted Sales Invoices and then choose the related link.
- Open the document to view the posted lines.
- Select a line and then choose the Consumption Lines action to view the related lines.
- If necessary, it is possible to credit the document and then recreate it.
Note
If you credit a posted sales invoice with linked consumption lines, the consumption lines will be recreated on the contract, allowing you to adjust them and then recreate the invoice.
